Background
Dr. Forshey obtained his B.S in Microbiology from Ohio State in 1975. From there he attended and graduated Ohio State medical school in 1978. His post graduate training was performed at Riverside Methodist Hospital. He then worked in the Emergency Dept at Central Ohio Emergency Services for one year prior to moving to Newton.

Dr. Forshey practices the full spectrum of Family Medicine with the exception of Obstretrics.
Personal
Dr. Forshey enjoys golf, gardening and other outdoor activities. He and his wife, Barb enjoy spending time with their three grandchildren; Aiden, Kaitlin, and Isabella and Emerson. They also enjoy spending time with the grandchildrens parents (Nathan, Desmond and Cheryl). Drew is living and working in Chapel Hill, NC.

Dr. Lopina was born the 6th of 8 children into a loving family in a small rural town in Wisconsin. He spent most of his young life in Winston-Salem, NC. In 1992, he graduated from Bishop McGuinness High School, where he was Valedictorian, Student Body President, and Captain of the varsity soccer team. Dr. Lopina has two degrees from UNC Chapel Hill. In 1996, he received a Bachelor of Science in Biology with highest distinction. In 2000, he received a Doctorate in Medicine (MD). In 2003, he completed his residency in Family Medicine at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, where he received 2 teaching awards. In 2006, he was Chairman of the Department of Family Medicine at Catawba Valley Medical Center. Beginning in 2008, he became a member of the Credentials Committee at Catawba Valley Medical Center. Also in 2008, he began volunteering as one of the team physicians for the 2008 2A state champion Newton-Conover High School Varsity Football Team.

Dr. Lopina practices full service Family Medicine, with the exception of Obstetrics. He cares for newborns, children, adolescents, and adults. He performs minor surgical procedures in the office. His specific area of interest is Pediatrics.
Personal
Dr. Lopina lives in Newton with his wife, Annemarie, and their 3 young children, Anna, Jake, and Jude. He and his family are parishioners at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Newton. He enjoys playing and listening to music, playing basketball, landscaping, spending time outdoors, and most of all, spending time with his family.

Tonya is a native of Morganton, NC. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Lenoir-Rhyne College in 1998 with a Bachelors of Science in Nursing. She received her Masters of Science in Nursing with a concentration in Family Nurse Practitioner from East Carolina University in 2006.

She enjoys the entire spectrum of family practice, however particularly enjoys women's health and pediatrics.
Personal
In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and making beaded jewelry.

Dr. Peltzer received a BA in Biology, with Honors, from the University of Virginia in 1987. He stayed in Charlottesville for medical school and received his MD from the University of Virginia in 1991. He did his Residency at St. Margaret Memorial Hospital, in Pittsburgh, PA from 1991-1994.

Dr. Peltzer practices full service Family Medicine, with the exception of Obstetrics. He takes care of newborns, children, adolescents, adults and geriatrics. He performs minor surgical procedures in the office such as mole removals, skin tags, freezing of warts and pre-cancerous skin lesions. His specific areas of interest are Pediatrics, Hypertension, Dyslipidemia, Diabetes and minor office surgeries.
Personal
Dr. Peltzer lives in Newton. He has four children: Benjamin, Rachel, Samuel and Sarah. He enjoys woodworking, coaching soccer, playing racquetball, music and theater. He is a member of the Catawba Valley Rotary Club and Temple Beth Shalom. He chairs the Physician Development Committee at Catawba Valley Medical Center, where he is also a former Chairman of the Department of Family Medicine.

Kari is from Hickory , NC . She graduated from North Carolina State University in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from UNC-Chapel Hill in 2001. Kari worked as an emergency room nurse at CMC-University for 6 years. While doing so, she pursed her Masters in Nursing from Duke University and obtained it in 2008.

Kari enjoys the entire spectrum of family practice. She particularly enjoys pediatrics, women’s health, and the management of hypertension. Kari also loves preventative healthcare.
Personal
Kari is married and has 3 children. She has two daughters, Anna (5) and Abby (2), and a son Alex, who is 10 months old. She loves to spend time with her family. Kari enjoys traveling, spending time outside, and cheering for the Wolfpack!

Dr. Sherfey grew up near Annapolis, Maryland. In 1992, she graduated from Severna Park High School as Valedictorian. She came to NC in 1992 for college and has never left! Dr. Sherfey graduated with honors from Duke in 1996 with a B.S. degree in Psychology and a certificate in Biopsychosocial Human Development. She received her MD from Wake Forest University School of Medicine in 2000. In 2003, she completed her Family Medicine residency at Wake Forest University School of Medicine and served as Chief Resident during her third year of training.

Dr. Sherfey practices the full spectrum of Family Medicine with the exception of Obstetrics. Her particular interests are Women's Health, Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine, and Chronic Disease management of lipid problems, hypertension & diabetes.
Personal
Dr. Sherfey is married to Rev. Josh Sherfey who is currently serving at First United Methodist Church in Taylorsville, NC. They have 2 boxers, Crash & Boomer, who keep them active. Josh & Shannon enjoy running, travelling, mission work and church activities, cooking and spending time with family, especially their nieces and nephew.

Personal interests include spending time with his family, involvement with his local church Mt Ruhama Baptist Church and outdoor activities. He especially enjoys flyfishing in the streams of North Carolina. He and his family also enjoy hiking and camping.

Our office hours are Monday thru Friday from 8:00am - 12:00pm and 1:00pm - 5:00pm. Please call ahead for appointment times for a specific doctor. For emergent needs after hours or on the weekend please call 828-324-0258. This service is not to be used for prescription refills. * Remember if someone doesn't call you back in 30 minutes - please call back! As always, in an emergency go to the nearest emergency facility or call 911.
